Cloudland Canyon State Park

In Rising Fawn, GA there is a beautiful state park with an incredible canyon that everyone should see in the fall. It’s the kind of place that begs you to wear comfortable jeans and a jacket as you enjoy a roaring campfire, complete with marshmallows and hot chocolate.

The drive up was uneventful except for when a young man driving a huge truck decided that whatever he was texting was more important than where he was going and almost hit us head on, but apparently that wasn’t the day God planned for us to meet Him.  We wound up getting the best site available at Cloudland here on earth instead.

If I go back I will look for site number eight again.  It’s got plenty of privacy, a huge spot for Enos and tents, and hiking straight from that area is easy.  Just like at Moccasin Creek State Park, this state park also has a Hemlock Falls. It was a good hike but the lack of rainfall made this more like it should have been named “Hemlock Pool”. Still beautiful, though.

Chattanooga is only about a half an hour away. There’s also Chestnut Mountain WMA Shooting Range closeby!

One more thing, in Georgia, participating libraries have parking passes for the state parks for check out. We did and it saved us five dollars.
